Americanism

    Americanism & Government Test

Each year American Legion  hosts the Americanism and Government Test Program.   Each sponsoring post grades the tests given at their local High Schools and selects the highest score from the boy and girl in the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior class to move on to the County level.  After the County Winners are selected, those winners move on to the District and then the Department level.  Department Winners receive a one week all expenses paid trip to Gettysburg, PA and Washington DC in the Spring.

Oratorical Contest

The Oratorical Contest presents participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation's laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

The Assigned Topics for the 2015 Contest are Amendments 5, 6, 8, and 19.  We should have two students returning from last year's contest.

Educator of the Year

Our Educator is Mrs. Kay Ziegler submitted by Delta Post #373. Mrs. Ziegler teaches at Evergreen Elementary, she teaches Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. What makes her so special is that she goes to Guatemala every summer to teach under-privileged and orphaned children.

Eagle Scout of the Year

The First District has the Department Eagle Scout of The Year, he is Brian
Chamberlain. Brian received his eligibility through his Grandfather who belonged to Ridgeville Corners
Post #454 when he was alive. Brian's Nomination Packet was forwarded on to National for consideration to
be the National Eagle Scout of The Year. Good Luck Brian.

Buckeye Boys State

American Legion Buckeye Boys State is an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government.

The above Americanism Programs are the "Picture Window" of The American Legion.  Conducting these Programs and recognizing the students and teachers for their efforts brings our Organization to the fore-front of other organizations and to the Community's attention and will help our Membership to grow.
